It was May '03 when Sam (drums), Stuart (vocals) and Arron (guitar) got together to jam and write music together. The trio felt the need for more of a solid band type line up and so contacted Rob to fulfil bass duties. Rob had been in a band with Sam previously, as a singer, and Liam from local band Anima to fill in as a second guitarist.
We practiced a few times with this lineup, writing a couple of songs and generally having a laugh until it was found that we wanted to take the band in a more metal direction. This didn't suit Aaron, whos more melodic influences were sounding more and more out of place. We decided to part company after only a couple of months, but wishing Aaron all the best with his music in the future.
With a more settled lineup now in place we set about booking gigs, and writing songs like shit, trying to get a set together. It was after a week of solid work (and drinking) round at Liam's that we managed to finish up. The gigs went well and we kept writing and gigging, expanding into nearby Leeds and Sheffield in the following months...
The band has continued to evolve, seeking and finding a distinct personal style which is not only heavy enough to wake the dead but also delicate and emotive. The gigs have kept coming & the fanbase has kept increasing. One thing which has stayed with us is our active and energetic live stage perfomance. The way we see it is you've paid for a show- if you just want the music then just buy the cd. We appreciate every person that has come along to check us out, weather you loved or hated us.
In April '05, Session9 recorded their first cd, entitled This is Who We Are. The disk runs just under 30 mins and has 5 tracks. Please email us or fill in the form on our website if you would like a copy.
